Application for J1 Visa Service
Step 1: Online DS-2019 Application
Please complete the DS-2019 Application for J1 Visa. You cannot save this page, and we can only process your application if it is complete. (Please do not apply more than 6 months in advance.)
Step 2: Submit required documents
Upon receipt of your DS-2019 Application for J1 Visa, we will send an e-mail including documents, templates and guidelines to you and your host company so that you can complete your application. Required documents are:
- Copy of Passport
Please send us a copy of the first page of your passport, where all your personal data is indicated.
- English Test
Please go to www.testpodium.com and do level 2. The test is free and takes 35 minutes. You need at least 41 points. Please e-mail the results to info@intraxinternships.eu. English native speakers do not need to take the test.
- Participant Eligibility Form
- You need to sign the Participant Eligibility Form at the end of the second page using a black pen.
- Leave the parts blank concerning your English and the personal interview.
- Proof of student status:
- Please ask your university/school to fill in the fields and to sign with a black pen and use the university/school stamp/seal with dark ink.
- If your university/school does not want to sign the Participant Eligibility Form or if you have already graduated, please send us a certificate from your school or a copy of your diploma. If the certificate is not in English already, we need a translation.
- If you are applying for a J1 trainee visa, we also need your resume showing that you have at least 12 months of work experience in your field of study.
- The Participant Eligibility Form asks you in Section 11 to sign and verify that you have read the Code of Federal Regulations governing the Exchange Visitor program (CFR 62 part 22).
- Financial Statement
If your host company pays less than $1000 per month, we need a financial statement. You can either ask your parents or another sponsor to fill out and sign the Letter of Guarantee or you can ask your bank to fill out the Financial Statement or to provide their own bank statement.
Please note that the statement needs to be in English and that the amount has to be noted in US$ as well.
The documents we need from your host company are

The pages containing your internship/training description need to be type-written.

We will now send you an invoice for your J1 visa program fees.
Step 4: Host Company Confirms Your Internship
Be sure to let your host company know that Intrax is your J1 visa sponsor and will contact them via phone to confirm your internship/training. If there is no phone contact, the process cannot move forward.
Step 5: Intrax Issues DS-2019 (Certificate of Eligibility)
After your payment and your complete and correct application have been received, and Intrax has received confirmation of your placement from your host company, Intrax will process and issue your DS-2019 form within 2 - 4 weeks.
The DS-2019 form will be sent to you directly via FedEx.
Step 6: Pre-Departure Information
Intrax will send you further pre-departure information on living in the USA, SEVIS, Social Security Number, Travel Validation as well as guidance on applying and interviewing for the J1 visa at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your home country.
Step 7: Apply for J1 Visa at US Embassy or Consulate
You need to schedule an appointment with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. The wait time for an embassy interview varies throughout the year. It might take several weeks in the summer months.
Please consult the embassy website of your country to see which additional documents are required. You will have a personal interview during which you will have to prove your home ties and your commitment to returning to your home country after the program. For this interview and for the J1 visa, the embassy charges you about $140. This sum is not included in our program fee.
Once your J1 visa application is approved, you will receive a visa stamp in your passport. In some locations, you will receive your visa stamp on the same day as your visa interview. In other locations, your stamped passport will be sent to you via post.
Have a successful internship in the USA!
